The Hankerson lab’s work focuses on reducing racial and gender disparities in mental health that affect the Black  community and other communities of color. We collaborate with several community members and organizations to promote mental health equity, increase mental health literacy, reduce stigma, and increase access to care for depression, anxiety, prolonged grief, and drug use.

Our Core Values

These values are an expression of the vision and intent of our leadership which we strive to center in all of our work.

Facilitate the achievement of the highest level of health in the Black community and other communities of color through the elimination of disparities in health and health care.

Center community voices and expertise in the development and implementation of our outreach and projects.

Provide culturally humble resources, support, and treatment to our colleagues, community partners, and community members.

Utilize evidence-based approaches to racial health disparities in mental health access and treatment engagement.
